The inception of Thunder Hill took place in a bar in Hong Kong in 2013. Rebecca had been working in the wine industry since 1999 and had just left her role as South Australian Sales Manager for Torbreck Vintners. Stephen has been marketing minerals internationally and has developed successful businesses globally. While enjoying the culinary delights of Hong Kong, Rebecca and Stephen first spoke of collaborating to produce wines exclusively from South Australia’s premium wine regions.
Growing up in Adelaide provided Stephen with a great deal of exposure to the wonderful wine culture which is enjoyed by so many. It was therefore no surprise that from an early age, Stephen developed a taste for the wines from the nearby premium wine growing regions of Australia. Favourite memories of enjoying red wine at wineries in the beautiful Barossa Valley with family and friends always brings a smile.
From the earth comes the vines, as well as the minerals which Stephen has built his international marketing career around. Stephen has worked within the marketing functions of multi national companies and after many years working and living internationally, he has successfully developed his own international commodities trading company.
These diverse life experiences coupled with the pleasure of drinking wines from the premium wine growing areas in Australia and in particular his home state of South Australia, have inspired Stephen to develop Thunder Hill wines so that others around the world may also share such enjoyment. Furthermore, Stephen has significant public company Directorship experience and is a Director of Uranex Ltd (ASX Code UNX) and has been a Director of IMX Resources (ASX Code IXR) and Australian Zircon (ASX Code AZC). Stephen is also a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Having spent almost 20 years in the Barossa, Rebecca is passionate about the region, its food and of course its wines. She commenced her wine journey at the Yalumba Wine Room in 1999, working with the sales and marketing team before transferring to the Negociants office in Adelaide and focussing on the international wine portfolio. She also spent two years with Fuller Communications as event coordinator for national wine events including the Australian Wine Marketing Conference, the inaugural Wine Food Tourism Conference and the Wine Industry’s Annual Outlook Conference. Rebecca also worked on SME marketing strategies for Coonawarra and McLaren Vale wineries.
After joining Torbreck Vintners in 2011 as South Australian Sales & Event Manager, Rebecca completed her Level 2 WSET qualification. During her 2 ½ years with the Barossa based winery she has been privileged to experience some of the world’s greatest wines.
The opportunity to produce Thunder Hill wines exclusively from the premium wine regions of South Australia and to be able to share them with the world has been a dream come true.
